YXLON International KK becomes Comet Technologies Japan KK
July 01, 2021
Japan has always had its finger on the pulse of innovation when it comes to science, technology, automotive engineering, consumer electronics, robotics or even medical devices. So it comes as no surprise that Comet has been present in this region for many years with its X-ray systems (Yxlon), supporting our customers locally.
In order to open up our attractive range of X-ray modules under the Comet brand to the broader NDT market in Japan, we are now strengthening our presence - a step that is also reflected in the name change from Yxlon International KK to Comet Technologies Japan KK. "Experience and curiosity are at the core of our Comet brand," says Mineto Nakajo, General Manager of Comet in Japan. "That's why Comet customers can expect to find in us an experienced partner who will boldly help shape and co-create tomorrow's solutions.”
Strategically located in Yokohama - one of Japan's leading industrial cities and a major cluster of manufacturing companies - our local team will continue to address the most demanding technology challenges and support our customers.
With the recent announcement by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry to treat the semiconductor industry as a "national project", we can expect further impetus and investment - and with it new opportunities for Comet's entire range of offerings: X-ray and RF power technologies. But to that another time.
Mineto Nakajo, General Manager of Comet Group in Japan:

““The Japanese technological market is living a second youth with opportunities never seen before. By being in Japan as one company we'll be faster in providing turnkey solutions to our customers.”” |

Comet is present in Yokohama under brand Yxlon since 2007.

The employee initiative “100 ideas to tackle climate change” was launched at Comet in 2022. Now, another one of those ideas has become reality: the installation of a solar power system. With this step, we’re not only reducing our carbon footprint, but also turning employee-driven ideas into lasting impact. It’s a concrete move toward a more sustainable future – and a reminder that progress often starts with a single idea.

This past weekend, it was finally time: we, the apprentices at Comet, lined up at the starting line of the 6h de Fribourg – a national race held as part of the Hydrogen Grand Prix (H2GP). After weeks of designing, testing, and teamwork, the big moment had arrived. And while the race turned out very differently than we’d hoped, it became an experience we won’t forget anytime soon.

At Comet, we believe progress starts with curiosity – and few frontiers spark it like space. That’s why we’re partnering with Project HERMES as a sponsor – supporting the student team at ARIS to build and launch a bi-liquid propulsion rocket at the European Rocketry Challenge (EuRoC) in 2025. If successful, it will be the first Swiss rocket of its kind to reach an altitude of 8000 m – a major milestone for student aerospace in Switzerland. From cryogenic propellants to guided recovery, HERMES is a showcase of what happens when curiosity meets collaboration. Just like in our own work, their success depends on precision, teamwork, and a drive to go beyond – values we share as they reach for the skies.
