Welcome to our team at the heart of Taiwan’s Silicon Valley
May 22, 2021
Taiwan is one of the global semiconductor / electronics hotspots. Reason enough for Comet to be on the spot with a dedicated location at the famous HsinChu Science Park. We say welcome to the family!
Gordon, congratulations – you are the General Manager of Comet’s newly opened Taiwan Office. Why did Comet open a dedicated entity in Taiwan?
As you might know, Taiwan is where the global supply chain of the IC chips is situated. IC chips are sets of electronic circuits on a small flat silicon semiconductor material or a chip. There are many global No. 1 players producing in Taiwan, including companies like TSMC and ASE. Taiwan is also deeply involved in components and original design manufacturing for e-cars, smartphones, notebooks and flat-panel displays.
The industry uses many IC front-end tools, which utilize many of our Comet Plasma Control solutions. At the same time they use many of our X-Ray inspection systems for the inspection of back-end substrate and bumping. And the electronic industry also uses our X-Ray solutions for the inspection and testing of products such as camera lenses, batteries, capacitors, smartphones, LEDs etc. for which Taiwanese electronics manufacturers are known worldwide.
The customers want to become more competitive by using our X-Ray and plasma control technology. They need quick answers to their questions. They also need their supplier partners to work closely with their R&D team and production team to drive innovation and ensure smooth production to stay ahead of competition.
With our new footprint in Taiwan, we are closer to the customer and can provide them services and product to unleash their potential for growth.
What will be different for your customers now that Comet has a local office in Taiwan?
Comet products are not completely new to customers in Taiwan. We have delivered Plasma Control solutions via WPIC for many years. Also, we have developed quite a nice footprint already when it comes to quality inspection of electronic parts with Yxlon x-ray inspection systems.
Absolutely, but with our new regional sales and service office in HsinChu area we can provide customers much faster with what they need. So our customers will benefit from:
- Our local service, including sales and hardware service,
- Our local warehouse that enhances the availability and shortens the lead time of spare parts
- Our local training center which provides the customers with the latest technology and product training
- Our X-Ray Demo Center that supports our customers with their product development and their product trouble shooting
How big is your team currently?
We are a team with 11 people in sales, service, application, logistic and administration. As the business grows in the coming years, we plan to hire more talent for our team.
What makes your place special?
Our office is located in the HsinChu area, which is the Silicon Valley of Taiwan.
We are very close to the HsinChu Science Park, to the High-Speed Railway Station from which you can go to any city in Taiwan, and only 4 minutes from the highway. With this connectivity, we are very agile to serve our customers at any time in all cities of this island. The proximity to the Science park makes it very convenient for our customers to drop by for a visit and work with us in our demo center. This is important, because often a good collaboration with our customers would be started from inviting the customers to do the sampling and to visit our demo center at the early engagement stage.
What will be your next step this year?
Grow the business and make Comet famous in Taiwan!
