Object Research Systems – a great strategic fit for Comet

October 02, 2020

With the acquisition of the Canadian software developer ORS, Comet reinforces its competencies in the areas of machine learning, artificial intelligence and big data analytics and is implementing its strategy.

Boosting our growth strategy

Focusing on digital solutions is an essential part of Comet and the division IXS’s strategy. It’s about offering services, that go beyond the normal inspection of components, to improve processes and increase yield for customers. ORS data processing capabilities will help IXS to implement their strategy.

Go beyond inspection by using data analytics

By being part of the Comet ORS will gain deeper insight in specific processes which IXS is supporting with their systems solutions. ORS' expertise in data analytics will further improve the processing of image data and make new things possible.

With the software dragonfly ORS brings in a proven machine learning capability. The software is already used in over 80 countries for demanding analysis jobs in material sciences, electronics and manufacturing. It can be further developed to meet the needs of Yxlon’s aspired markets.

Learn from each other and grow together

Both parties have known and collaborated successfully on different projects for the last 3 years. Being part of the same company, they can much better align priorities, learn from each other, grow together and create solutions that lead the way.

Comet is going (back) to space

April 14, 2025

At Comet, we believe progress starts with curiosity – and few frontiers spark it like space. That’s why we’re partnering with Project HERMES as a sponsor – supporting the student team at ARIS to build and launch a bi-liquid propulsion rocket at the European Rocketry Challenge (EuRoC) in 2025. If successful, it will be the first Swiss rocket of its kind to reach an altitude of 8000 m – a major milestone for student aerospace in Switzerland. From cryogenic propellants to guided recovery, HERMES is a showcase of what happens when curiosity meets collaboration. Just like in our own work, their success depends on precision, teamwork, and a drive to go beyond – values we share as they reach for the skies.
