ECO Series - Low weight portable X-ray systems

June 6, 2023

Getting quality data from your portable NDT process requires a high degree of accurate manipulation and positioning by the onsite technician. Whether it’s seam-testing on pipelines or checking aviation component integrity, there’s no way that getting good results isn’t going to involve some physical effort. That’s why we’ve designed the new ECO with lower weight and to be more manageable - even for just one person.

With its robust, ergonomic design and weight of just 14 kg, the ECO has been designed to make workflows faster, safer and less tiring. And of course, because the ECO is built using the same principles, as the tried and trusted EVO series, there’s no compromise on image quality.

When you need the right tool for the job, the ECO delivers where it counts. With its rugged, low weight and accurate performance, you simply get more from your working day with less effort.

1. The future is ECO – less lead, less weight

We called it ECO for a reason. As well as economizing on the required user effort with its low weight composite material structure, we’ve made the unit even more eco-friendly. By reducing the number of lead (Pb) components, we’ve not just cut weight but made the unit more environmentally friendly.

"We could see that there was a trend towards low weight portable X-ray equipment, in a quality that supported professional use - that is the main reason for the creation of the ECO series. Low weight and high quality"

Jan Bressendorff, ECO Product Manager

2. A solid investment

The ECO makes good economic sense too: As a one-man tool, you reduce labor costs, get a faster and smarter workflow as it’s easier to handle and carry - while the small focal spot gives the possibility of shorter exposure times and increased image quality.

That’s what we call economical.

3. Makes work flow

Creating a smarter workflow for portable X-ray has been our driving force behind the development of the ECO. With its unique length-to-width ratio, ergonomic design, and well distributed 14 kg, the unit requires less effort to handle and re-position - even for just one person.

A broad operating temperature range from -20°C to +50°C makes the ECO reliable even in extreme environments, while its intuitive interface allows for an even smarter workflow.

4. Rugged and reliable

The ECO is designed and built in Denmark using refined EVO technology. With the best components, including new low weight composite materials, the units are assembled with the utmost care - making them reliable, long-lasting, and a sound economical investment.

Protected by a sturdy, robust casing is a high-quality metal ceramic X-ray insert. The systems meet IP65 standards and are fully operational in dusty and wet conditions.

5. Safe and accurate

Each unit is individually tested and measured for safety and accuracy to meet the highest international safety standards - including RoHS.

The ECO series features a 1.0 mm small focal spot and 750 W constant potential X-ray power ensuring high performance, shorter exposure times, and high-resolution results.

Smart accessories

In our world, time is everything. The smarter we help you and your people work, the faster and better you’ll get the job done. Working smart means accuracy, safety and reliability, and most important, it means avoiding costly disruptions to your workflow.

A broad range of high-quality accessories is available for the ECO series. These various accessories enable a smarter workflow and support multiple applications in all environments.
Our range of accessories makes the use of portable X-ray equipment safer, more efficient and convenient when challenging working conditions has to be solved.

The accessories are not only designed to be used in rough conditions but also to be agile and user-friendly for customers when using portable X-ray systems.

Need for Speed: Boosting X-ray Inspection Speed in Advanced Electronics

October 28, 2026

As electronics become more powerful and advanced packaging technologies more complex, manufacturers face the challenge of detecting ever-smaller defects without reducing throughput. Optical inspection methods cannot reveal the buried structures found in high-power electronics, chiplets, HBM, through glass vias (TGVs), and advanced 3D packages. X-ray inspection and automated X-ray inspection (AXI) provide the required visibility, but higher resolution and penetration have traditionally come at the expense of speed. Recent advances in micro and nano focus X-ray source technology are overcoming this trade-off by delivering higher photon flux, improved contrast-to-noise ratio, and faster imaging. In this post we review these developments in high-power electronics, where higher voltage and power are required to penetrate through dense structures while maintaining micro-scale imaging, and advanced packaging where increasing complexity from vertical integration and sub-micron resolution combine. We highlight how increased throughput can be achieved while maintaining reliable defect detection.

Focus topic. A conversation with Jan Bressendorff and Allen Gress about pipeline weld inspection

October 8, 2026

On a pipeline job, the X-ray system is chosen for the weld, not from a catalog. Pipe size and access determine how the crew can inspect it. The procedure sets what the image must show. Heat, weight and exposure time shape the working day. A poor choice can cost hours. A good one helps the crew get an image the inspector can assess without needless delay.
