Welcome Andreea!
November 2, 2026
Meet Andreea Vasiliu, our new Vice President of Global Sales! Andreea brings extensive international sales and leadership experience and knows Comet well from her previous roles within Plasma Control Technologies. During more than eight years with the company, she held several global and regional sales leadership positions, most recently as Director Sales EMEA and Vacuum Capacitors Global. Since 2024, she has served as General Manager Europe and RoW at VAT Group.
You were already part of the company. How does it feel to return to a new role?
It feels both familiar and new. I have very good memories of my time at Comet, especially the people I worked with and the opportunities I had to grow. Since then, my role as General Manager for Europe and Rest of World at VAT has broadened my experience beyond sales, giving me responsibility across different functions and a wider perspective on running a business. I’m looking forward to bringing that experience back to Comet.
Joining a different division also means there is plenty to learn: new technologies, new customers, and new colleagues. That combination of coming back and starting something new is what makes this exciting for me.
What appeals to you most about your new position?
What excites me most about this role is the opportunity to help grow IXM's presence in new markets such as semiconductor and battery inspection. These areas represent important growth opportunities and are becoming a stronger focus for IXM's future development. Having spent more than a decade in the semiconductor industry, I look forward to bringing my market knowledge and customer understanding to support our growth in these segments and help connect customer needs with our technology roadmap.
An interesting fact about Andreea:
Alongside her physics studies, she worked as a news presenter for a local television channel, delivering the evening news. This specific experience strengthened her communication skills and taught her to remain calm under pressure. It remains one of the most memorable chapters of her university years.
What are you particularly looking forward to?
My first priority is to get to know the business through the people closest to it. I want to spend time with our teams, listen to customers, and understand what is working well and where things could work better. Having worked at Comet before, I know how much knowledge and experience there is within the company. I’m looking forward to learning from that expertise as I get to know a different division. And, of course, there is the personal pleasure of reconnecting with former colleagues and meeting new ones. Those conversations are a good place to begin.
If you could instantly become an expert in one skill tomorrow, what would it be and why?
I would choose the ability to speak and understand any language fluently.
Working internationally has shown me how much it means to people when you can speak their native language. English helps us work together, but there is something special about sharing a conversation in the language someone feels most at home in. I’d love to understand the humour, expressions and cultural nuances that don’t always translate. It would make both working with people and travelling even more interesting. Plus, give me plenty of opportunities to listen and learn.

Need for Speed: Boosting X-ray Inspection Speed in Advanced Electronics
October 28, 2026
As electronics become more powerful and advanced packaging technologies more complex, manufacturers face the challenge of detecting ever-smaller defects without reducing throughput. Optical inspection methods cannot reveal the buried structures found in high-power electronics, chiplets, HBM, through glass vias (TGVs), and advanced 3D packages. X-ray inspection and automated X-ray inspection (AXI) provide the required visibility, but higher resolution and penetration have traditionally come at the expense of speed. Recent advances in micro and nano focus X-ray source technology are overcoming this trade-off by delivering higher photon flux, improved contrast-to-noise ratio, and faster imaging. In this post we review these developments in high-power electronics, where higher voltage and power are required to penetrate through dense structures while maintaining micro-scale imaging, and advanced packaging where increasing complexity from vertical integration and sub-micron resolution combine. We highlight how increased throughput can be achieved while maintaining reliable defect detection.

October 8, 2026
On a pipeline job, the X-ray system is chosen for the weld, not from a catalog. Pipe size and access determine how the crew can inspect it. The procedure sets what the image must show. Heat, weight and exposure time shape the working day. A poor choice can cost hours. A good one helps the crew get an image the inspector can assess without needless delay.

September 21, 2026
For two decades, the HP/11 has been the reference minifocus X-ray tube for high-resolution and high throughput radiography. The HP/15 keeps everything that made it trusted, and reengineers the rest for digital detectors, in-line inspection and computed tomography.
