Introducing BLOX: the health monitoring solution
July 29, 2025
A smart, connected tool that helps reduce the risk of unplanned downtime? Meet BLOX – our Industrial IoT health monitor for X-ray tubes and generators. By providing deep insights into system performance, BLOX enables users to detect early warning signs, take preventive action, and keep production running more reliably.
In today’s connected manufacturing environment, uptime is critical. As Industry 4.0 and IIoT technologies continue to transform equipment maintenance and optimization, timely access to system data has become more than just a convenience — it’s a key competitive edge.
That’s where BLOX comes in. Key data is already built into our X-ray modules and securely stored. BLOX gives customers web-based access to valuable insights on the health of their tubes and generators. It helps identify early warning signs, understand root causes more clearly, and take timely action to reduce the risk of unplanned downtime.
«With BLOX, our customers move from guesswork to clarity – it helps them identify and manage risks in a structured way, make faster decisions, and significantly reduce the time spent troubleshooting.»

How BLOX maximizes uptime
Every minute of unplanned downtime costs time, money, and trust. BLOX is designed to help our customers – and their customers – stay ahead of potential issues and minimize disruptions. Here’s how it makes a difference:
Monitors the health of X-ray modules remotely
Shows alerts before wear becomes critical
Recommends preventive actions to stop small issues from escalating
Reduces reliance on second-level support – with up to 90% of issues solvable directly in BLOX
Improves service planning – by helping prioritize visits based on real usage and failure indicators
In short: BLOX keeps your systems healthy, operations smooth, and service teams better prepared.
«BLOX turns raw data into business results – fewer disruptions, lower costs, more control.»

Spot problems before they stop you: a real-life example
Many causes of X-ray system downtime can be avoided – if you know where to look. Here’s how BLOX helps detect one of the most common (and costly) failure patterns early.
The issue
Comet generators are designed to protect the tube by gradually ramping down power during a controlled shutdown. However, uncontrolled high-voltage (HV) shutdown can occur when safety interlocks are triggered – often due to untrained operators or timing issues in the PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) that bypass the built-in protection.
The risk
An uncontrolled HV shutdown puts heavy thermal stress on the tube target. Over time, this accelerates wear, reduces dose output, and leads to longer exposure times. Ultimately, it shortens the lifetime of the tube and increases replacement and maintenance costs.
How BLOX helps
- Detects irregular shutdowns and flags them as alerts in the dashboard, including in the “Alerts” tab
- Shows shutdown codes, explains root causes (e.g. safety interlock open) along with recommended next steps
What customers can do
- Use BLOX data to follow up with the end user and recommend changes to avoid repeat issues
- Plan a service visit if there are problems with the setup or PLC
By identifying this pattern early, BLOX helps take quick action – before a small issue turns into a bigger problem.
BLOX takes the guesswork out of module monitoring. It gives OEMs and end users the clarity they need to keep X-ray operations running smoothly. By highlighting early signs of performance drift, it helps prevent failures, improve service efficiency, and speed up troubleshooting.
Whether it's minimizing unplanned interruptions, making support more efficient, or tracking wear trends – BLOX helps you stay ahead with clear, actionable insights.

Focus topic. A conversation with Jan Bressendorff and Allen Gress about pipeline weld inspection
October 8, 2026
On a pipeline job, the X-ray system is chosen for the weld, not from a catalog. Pipe size and access determine how the crew can inspect it. The procedure sets what the image must show. Heat, weight and exposure time shape the working day. A poor choice can cost hours. A good one helps the crew get an image the inspector can assess without needless delay.

September 21, 2026
For two decades, the HP/11 has been the reference minifocus X-ray tube for high-resolution and high throughput radiography. The HP/15 keeps everything that made it trusted, and reengineers the rest for digital detectors, in-line inspection and computed tomography.

September 10, 2026
This is not primarily a story about a cooler leak - it is a story about what happens when insight arrives too late. About the cost of operating without remote access. About the difference between reacting to failures and preventing them. And about how weak signals only become meaningful over time when data is allowed to flow. At its core, this case shows why BLOX alone is not enough.
