Our takeaway from the event
March 05, 2021
The Technology Unites Global Summit held virtually in February 2021 attracted hundreds of professionals from the Electronics and Semiconductor industry. As the silver sponsor, we summarize it for you short and crisp in 3 points:
1 - The future looks bright
One key theme to take away from the many presenters during the week was that the future is/looks bright for the industry. For several years digital data generation and consumption has been, and is expected to continue, to grow exponentially. As our society becomes more interconnected and more digital the semiconductor industry will continue to serve as the backbone of this digitized world.
„Digital transformation has drastically accelerated with the pandemic and will be vital [... ] post COVID.“
Luc Van de hove, Imec
2 - Artificial intelligence: The solution not the problem
In the opinion of many presenters, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has actually accelerated the worldwide digital transformation as certain aspects of our lives (e.g. education, employment and entertainment) have moved online.
Furthermore, we are entering a new era of digitalization with the propagation of AI throughout our society. Especially AI that will be able to make use of this abundance of data, is drastically increasing the demand for more computing and storage capacity.
„As a society we should expect AI to be used to develop solutions to solve the worlds many different problems“
Kevin Crofton, Comet Group
3 - Social responsability
However, these developments do not come without certain aspects that we as an industry need to keep in mind. The explosion of data is resulting in an ever-increasing demand for energy. That is why our industry will have continue to push the limits of what is possible but must do so in an environmentally friendly and sustainable way. Digitization is also resulting in an increasing so called “digital divide” across the globe and we all need to help solve this problem by providing opportunities to our communities and increase collaboration, inclusivity and diversity across our ecosystems.

At this weekend’s «6h de Fribourg» event, six Comet apprentices proved their passion for innovation and sustainability. In a race with 21 other teams, they accumulated 11,292 laps with their hydrogen model cars, which corresponds to 960 kilometers and only 462 grams of hydrogen. As a sponsor and employer, Comet is proud to support this exciting learning experience that puts multidisciplinary collaboration at the center of real-world science and engineering projects.
