Taking unprecedented to a whole new level at Semicon Europa
November 27, 2024
This year’s Semicon Europa was one for the books! With the theme “Innovation and Collaboration: Powering Sustainable Exponential Growth,” this year's event celebrated progress, partnerships, and groundbreaking solutions. Not only did we launch a disruptive technology with the next-gen CA20 inspection solution, but the way we did it truly embodied the spirit of innovation. From sponsoring future talent through the 20 Under 30 Awards to engaging in vital discussions about diversity in the semiconductor sector, the event was a showcase of what makes this industry so extraordinary.
Launch of the next gen CA20 inspection solution
What do you do when suddenly, the CEO’s presentation is delayed and falls on the same time as the launch of your latest inspection solution? You stay agile!
Thanks to seamless teamwork and the support of Semi Europe, we successfully revealed the new CA20 to an enthusiastic audience at our booth.
About the new CA20
Now available as a fully-automated inspection solution for Advanced Packaging, the Comet Yxlon CA20 is designed to deliver superior 2D & 3D images in the highest resolution. It allows the fastest inspection of micron-sized details, identifying structural defects fast – and helps cut time to market for complex 3D ICs.
By combining high-resolution 3D X-ray capabilities with AI-driven automated defect recognition (ADR) for solder bumps, the CA20 helps to detect systematic challenges faster than ever before. It seamlessly integrates into the Fab’s material and information flows to deliver actionable real-time metrology data for assuring product quality and maximizing yield.
Celebrating future leaders: 20 Under 30 Awards
Sponsoring the 20 Under 30 Awards reaffirmed our commitment to nurturing future industry leaders – and this year, we were especially proud to see two of our own talents among the winners! Their recognition highlights their dedication and expertise, and we couldn’t be prouder of their accomplishments. We also had the privilege of welcoming these talented individuals to our lounge and discussing their visions for the semiconductor industry. Their ideas and enthusiasm show that the future is in great hands, and the industry is well on its way to achieving sustainable growth.

Addressing the talent shortage
The semiconductor sector faces a pressing talent gap, particularly as Europe works to meet the ambitious goals of the European Chips Act. As members of the European Chips Diversity Alliance (ECDA), we’re committed to addressing this challenge.
At Semicon Europa, we participated in insightful panel discussions about attracting a more diverse talent pool and the strategies needed to build a robust workforce for 2030. These conversations reinforced the importance of inclusivity and collaboration in shaping a sustainable future for the industry.
The power of AI in semiconductor manufacturing
AI isn’t just transforming semiconductor manufacturing – it’s revolutionizing how we approach the challenges of Advanced Packaging. During Semicon Europa, we hosted several keynotes about AI-driven 3D X-ray inspection on its own and how that supports a sustainable inspection strategy for AI chips.
These talks showcased how AI seamlessly integrates into our products to accelerate innovation cycles. For example, our Dragonfly-powered X-ray inspection software employs AI to detect and address defects with precision. By combining AI insights with cutting-edge 3D imaging, we’re helping manufacturers reduce waste, improve yield, and meet the demands of the next generation of AI chips.
Final thoughts
Reflecting on Semicon Europa 2024, we’re filled with gratitude and pride. From celebrating groundbreaking innovation to supporting the leaders of tomorrow, this event reinforced our belief in the power of collaboration and ingenuity. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who visited our booth, joined our discussions, and celebrated this exciting journey with us. Together, we are shaping the future of semiconductors!
