Ground breaking of the new facility: Comet expands its footprint in Penang

October 15, 2024

Comet recently celebrated a major milestone with the ground breaking of our new facility in Penang, Malaysia. This strategic investment not only expands our presence in Asia but also sets the stage for innovation, collaboration, and long-term growth in the semiconductor market. Find out what our plans look like and how we celebrated this important milestone.

Why Penang?

The global semiconductor industry is in a period of rapid growth, with fabrication plants (fabs) being built worldwide – particularly across Asia. For Comet, expanding our presence in this key region is vital to maintaining our competitive edge. Since establishing our Penang location in 2020 and expanding it further in 2022, we have taken significant steps toward increasing productivity, enhancing customer support, and driving innovation. The ground breaking of our very own facility is the next chapter in this journey.

«Building our own hub in Penang is key for Comet’s further growth.»

Stephan Haferl, CEO

Looking ahead: Our vision.

Our new facility, set for completion by the end of 2026, will embody Comet’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. Designed as a cutting-edge, ESG-based factory, this space will provide a collaborative and vibrant workplace for our team, encouraging creativity and driving a sense of belonging. By fostering this environment, we aim to attract and retain top talent, ensuring that Comet continues to lead in delivering high-tech solutions for the semiconductor industry.

The new building will bring the Comet brand to life, blending curiosity, experience, and values. It will be a physical representation of the collaboration and innovation that fuel our success, positioning Comet as both a key player and employer of choice in the semiconductor market.

Celebrating together.

To celebrate this momentous occasion, employees from the Penang site were joined by visitors from other Comet locations, including our CEO Stephan Haferl and senior management. After the official ceremony at the new site, everyone gathered for a townhall, which concluded with a tree-planting ceremony symbolizing growth and sustainability. The event ended with a celebratory dinner where colleagues connected over the future of Comet in Penang.

Looking to the future

Breaking ground on this new facility reinforces Comet’s confidence in the future and our commitment to expanding our footprint in Asia. This investment strengthens our ability to meet the evolving needs of our customers and demonstrates our dedication to driving innovation in the semiconductor industry.

We are deeply grateful to our employees, customers, and partners for their unwavering support in making this project a reality. Together, we are building a brighter, more innovative future – one that is collaborative, sustainable, and deeply connected to our markets in Asia.
