The next generation brings future technologies to the starting line
May 09, 2023
At this weekend’s «6h de Fribourg» event, six Comet apprentices proved their passion for innovation and sustainability. In a race with 21 other teams, they accumulated 11,292 laps with their hydrogen model cars, which corresponds to 960 kilometers and only 462 grams of hydrogen. As a sponsor and employer, Comet is proud to support this exciting learning experience that puts multidisciplinary collaboration at the center of real-world science and engineering projects.
Empowering STEAM skills. Learning about sustainability.
The "6h de Fribourg" is first and foremost a unique opportunity for young talents to develop their STEAM skills (science, technology, engineering, art, mathematics). The event, which is part of the Horizon Hydrogen Grand Prix (H2GP), combines theoretical learning and practical experience to educate participants about the challenges and opportunities of sustainable energy.
Comet's young team started its journey with a class on sustainable technologies, before receiving parts for a remote-controlled hydrogen car (scale 1:10). In the weeks leading up to the race, the apprentices worked together to properly assemble the model car and like in a true engineering project, the team members came from different backgrounds. Each of them had a different area of focus, ranging from organization to logistics, engineering, mechanics and more.
«I gained valuable experience in project organization, which is the exact direction I want to pursue after completing my apprenticeship. This opportunity was the perfect training ground for my career goals. Moreover, I appreciated learning more mechanical skills and seeing what my colleagues do.»

Ready, set, race!
The grand finale of the project is the 6-hour event where the team completing the most laps with the model car, wins. This was another opportunity for the apprentices to test their newly acquired knowledge, as they had to maintain and repair the car throughout the race.
After six exciting and challenging hours, the Comet apprentices managed to complete 385 laps and finished in 14th place.
From innovation to innovation.
At Comet, we are proud to be Gold Sponsors of the "6h de Fribourg" event.
Not only for the learning opportunity it represents, but also because this sponsorship stems from our own innovation: The MesoFocus team that won the Fribourg Innovation Award on November 9, 2022 has made excellent use of the prize by reinvesting in this event dedicated to the promotion of innovation and sustainability, which happens to be in perfect adequacy with Comet's values.
For the last 75 years, we have followed our curiosity. It is what drives us and has made Comet a trailblazing global Swiss technology company. Curiosity and a spirit of research have allowed us to become and stay innovative. For a better and sustainable world.
Join us with your curiosity.
